Its Right to Resist the WarmakersPrimary Artist: Terry Forman

Created: San Francisco Collective, 1984

Medium: Silkscreen

Dimensions: 17.5″ x 23″

One of several posters made to bring attention to the US orchestrated wars in El Salvador and Nicaragua. This particular poster depicts a massive demonstration in San Francisco held to protest a meeting attended by Henry Kissinger—one of the architects of the Vietnam War, the overthrow of Allende in Chile as well as many of the military coups in Latin America (among other crimes). The police attacked on horses and hundreds of demonstrators were arrested, some with felonies. Thus, this poster also celebrates the broad based solidarity movement which had emerged in the US in support of the liberation movements.

Image: Photograph of a demonstration at the 1984 Democratic Party convention in San Francisco, California. On the left is a policeman on a horse charging the demonstrators. A banner supporting liberation movements in Nicaragua and El Salvador is shown on the right.

Words: It’s Right to Resist the Warmakers! Victory to the Liberation Movements in Central America! Drop the Charges” (A reference to the demonstrators arrested during the demonstration.)
