During the 1970s and early 1980s, the Black Liberation Army, an underground group, waged war on the US state. Their actions included attacks on police, on drug dealers, and armed expropriations. After a disastrous expropriation attempt in October 1981 in Nyack, NY, in which one of the guards and two policemen were killed, many Black members and white anti-imperialist supporters were arrested, culminating in convictions of several people, most for life terms. While some of those arrested have been released, several have died and several remain in prison as of 2022.
