The Republic of New Afrika (RNA), founded in 1968, was an organization dedicated to reclaiming five states in the South (Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina—commonly known as the Black Belt) as a Black Republic.  Organizing in Mississippi toward this goal, the RNA’s house in Jackson, MS was attacked by heavily armed Jackson police and FBI forces. A policeman was killed, and the RNA 11 were charged, convicted, and sentenced to long terms in prison.
